December Fog on Dry Creek, 2025

This winter the Central Valley had the worst and most continuous spell of ‘tule fog’ in recent memory.

Not that pea soup fog in low lying areas is uncommon here, just not runs of weeks without seeing any sunlight.

I get the SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) in these cloudy winter conditions and I need to chase the sunny patches in my back yard to get sun on my skin.

I also need the vitamin D to fight my BP woes and arthritis and peripheral neuropathy (probably from Agent Orange).

Not to mention the Reynaud’s Syndrome freezing my fingers like ice sculpture. Kids, old age is a shipwreck and I’m foundering on the reefs. But ain’t it the life?

No sunshine exposure at all is possible during extended seiges of tule fog. So I have fantasies of skinning out for Joshua Tree or Death Valley.

Except this year it was about as cold and wet down in the desert as up here near the big valley, and colder at night.

So I’m just hunkering down in foggy Roseville town trying to stay warm and hankering for warmer climes closer to me than Todos Santos, BC Sur, Mexico. Though I’d go if someone else was driving.

The fog does make for atmospheric pics but I want sunlight right now, not ‘possible partial clearing later’. I need Severe Clear for my psyche.
