Blue Lake is a little town near Arcata off 299 E, with both gingerbread Victorian and plain, square 19th century frontier style buildings. While no Ferndale, it’s worth a look-see.

Sea air, rain, sun and wind breaks things down quickly.
Bright colors are popular in places where cloud and fog rule.

Doesn’t get much plainer than this, with only a single square tower for ornamentation.
And the neighbor up the hill is even plainer but compensates with bilious green paint.
